batt-logo.pngIn 1938, the sixty-five volunteer fire departments throughout the County, now 71, agreed to organize a Central County-wide Fire Commission to organize the resources and duties of the fire service in Nassau County.

On January 1, 1938, these departments were divided into nine fire districts which were allocated according to population, number of firemen, apparatus and geographically, to avoid crossing main highways or bodies of water

The 2nd Battalion Fire District is located on the south shore of Long Island, New York. It is comprised of the BaldwinFreeportIsland ParkLong BeachOceanside, and Point Lookout-Lido fire departments.

It shall be the duty of the District Committee to coordinate, as far as possible, the service of the departments included in the Second Battalion District and to encourage good fire fighting practice therein.

The District Committee meets at least once every two months to receive and disseminate information for the greater good of the battalion.
