Night Closures of Loop Parkway Draw Bridge
The Loop Parkway Draw Bridge will be closed to motorists at night, beginning Tuesday, December 7, 2010 and continuing each night through Friday, December 10, 2010 in the Town of Hempstead, Nassau County. These weekday night closures between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. are needed to complete repairs to the drawbridge which started last spring. These final repairs will help assure the continued, safe operation of the 75 year-old Loop Parkway Draw Bridge. Local emergency service providers, officials and area schools have been notified of the night time closures. Motorists are being warned in advance of the closures via electronic roadway signs. Long Creek access will remain open to mariners.
The Long Beach Road or Atlantic Beach bridges should be used as alternative routes. As with most road and bridge projects, this bridge repair operation may be cancelled, postponed, or prolonged due to inclement weather. For 24/7 up-to-date traffic and travel information, motorists should call 511 or visitwww.511NY.org. In addition, travel information can be obtained from the INFORM Transportation Management Center cameras as www.INFORMNY.comand on their hand held communication devices at www.INFORMNY.mobi.
The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) appreciates the patience and cooperation of motorists and the local communities while this important bridge operation is undertaken to help assure the continued protection of all motorists.
